There are many households that suffer the summer months without the comfort of air conditioning, but to reside in a region with actual seasons and subzero temperatures without a furnace is not advised. A new furnace system installation or upgrade is a major investment and many options are available.
The two most common types of home heating systems include forced air and radiant (or boiler) systems. Forced air systems require ductwork to blow (or force) the heated air. This process distributes heat throughout your home. Radiant heating systems come in several different forms. These systems rely on boilers, which send heated water (steam) through a series of pipes to radiators (or baseboards). The radiators or baseboard provide heat wherever they are installed. Radiant heating systems may also transfer heat to a floor through hot water tubing installed beneath the flooring surface.
Forced air furnace types include electric and gas. Electric are good choices for climates that are spared harsh winter temperatures and can be expensive to operate. They are efficient as long as they are operating in above freezing conditions. Gas furnaces are the more recommended option in our area.Higher purchase and installation costs are offset over time thanks to their efficient and lower monthly operating costs.
